What to expect

Spend the day travelling through the forested Troodos Mountains and discover some of Cyprus' wildest landscapes on this 4x4 tour. See vineyards, waterfalls, mountain villages like Lefkara, pine forests and more.

We'll kick off the action at the impressive Dipotamos Dam for a photo stop. Then, it's onto the sleepy mountain village of Lefkara, renowned for its intricately-made lace and silverware. We'll go a bit off-piste into Mesa Potamos Forest where you can take part in an optional hike, too.

Once you've built up an appetite, a meze-style lunch will be served in a village taverna. Then, we'll head to a beautiful forest waterfall with ice-cold water cascading down 20m. There'll also be a stop for some wine-tasting, followed by a visit to Tochni village, where you can walk through narrow streets and try a Cypriot coffee in a local ‘kafenion'. A refreshing end to an action-packed day.

Famagusta en Salamis dagtocht

Op deze tour naar het noordelijke deel van Cyprus ontdek je meerdere lagen van de geschiedenis - de oudheid, de middeleeuwen en de jaren zeventig. De sterren van vandaag zijn de ruïnes van het antieke Salamis en het oude centrum van Famagusta, plus de 'spookstad' Varosha. Stavroula, een van onze deskundige lokale gidsen, zegt: "Het gebied rond Famagusta is rijk aan schatten uit de oudheid, de middeleeuwen en daarna. Volgens de lokale overlevering waren de mensen in de middeleeuwen zo rijk dat ze 365 kerken bouwden om elke dag God te bedanken voor hun comfortabele leven en overvloed.”Je avontuur begint in Salamis, een stad die in de klassieke oudheid werd gesticht en meer dan duizend jaar de hoofdstad van Cyprus was. Je wandelt over de oude wegen langs de ruïnes van tempels. Het gedeeltelijk gerestaureerde amfitheater is een must-see. Met een beetje fantasie zie je hier de voorstellingen en festivals uit het verleden voor je. Vervolgens ga je naar het 5e-eeuwse klooster van St.-Barnabas, waar je het iconenmuseum met exemplaren uit de Byzantijnse periode bezoekt.Dan wandel je samen met een gids door het spookachtige Varosha, waar de tijd al tientallen jaren stil staat. Ooit was het een populair vakantieoord, maar is al bijna 50 jaar compleet verlaten. Na wat vrije tijd om te lunchen verken je Famagusta, een stad die in het verleden een van de rijkste steden aan de Middellandse Zee was. De gids laat je de bezienswaardigheden zien, zoals het Venetiaanse kasteel en de gotische kathedraal die nu een moskee is.

Varosha excursie met de originele rode bus

Varosha was ooit een bloeiend vakantieoord. Maar deze wijk in het noordelijke deel van Cyprus ligt er al meer dan 50 jaar verlaten bij. Wandeling met gids door Nicosia

Nicosia is een fascinerende stad om te verkennen: je ziet twee totaal verschillende werelden. Je trapt af in het Cypriotisch zuidelijk deel en passeert de Groene Lijn om het noordelijke deel te verkennen.Eerst stop je bij de kathedraal van St Johannes dat in Franco-Byzantijnse stijl is gebouwd, uniek voor Cyprus. En je neemt een kijkje in het Museum voor Volkskunst van Cyprus, gevestigd in de gebouwen van het oude aartsbisschoppelijk paleis. Dan wandel je door de historische straten van Laiki Geitonia binnen de Venetiaanse wallen. In een web van kronkelende stegen met kerken, pleinen en sierlijke bouwwerken. Het lijkt net of je in een dorp rondloopt en niet midden in een stad.Nadat je de Groene Lijn bent naar het noorden bent gepasseerd, hoor je alles over de geschiedenis en cultuur als je de highlights. Om weer terug de moderne tijd in te wandelen en Ledra Street in het zuidelijke deel op je eigen tempo te verkennen.
